Research Technician – Cell Culture/Cloning

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Cell Culture/Cloning Technician to join and enhance our Antibody Discovery team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of relevant experience and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • BSc / MSc – Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical sciences 
  • Minimum 2 years relevant working experience, preferably in a commercial setting  
  • Proficiency in aseptic cell culture techniques, including the culturing both primary and variant cell lines.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, recombinant DNA and RNA manipulation, plasmid preparation at various scales, ELISAs, and transfections.
  • Ability to work with and maintain HEK293 cell lines and cell lines derived from similar tissue 
  • Experience working in a production environment and/or immunology is an asset 

Key responsibilities shall include:
  • Perform primary cell culture from immunized mammalian blood samples
  • Perform wet bench cloning work to support discovery programs    
  • Perform DNA/RNA extraction, purification and quantification
  • Conduct PCR, and molecular cloning
  • Transform and select bacteria for plasmid preparation
  • Plasmid purifications to various volumes
  • Perform ELISA based sera titrations and antibody supernatant screening procedures
  • Perform duties related to both client projects and R&D as necessary
  • Assist in writing work plans and reports
  • Ensure the successful delivery of quality products/services in a collaborative working environment
  • Assist in the entire workflow for the B cell process focusing on molecular work and also work with HEK293 for antibody expression
  • Create and keep accurate project records and workflow data
  • Assist in the development and improvement of B cell process
  • Assist in general lab maintenance including antigen inventory  buffer/ reagent preparations  
  • Update project information and conduct data analysis
  • Train junior research technicians
  • Stay current with advancement in laboratory technology
  • Assist in R&D activities as directed by management

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Keep accurate records of work performed.   
  • Manage an email account and attend company / lab meetings as required. 
  • Work closely with Project Team Leaders to ensure client project plans are executed successfully.  
  • Monitor levels of key lab supplies and replenish as needed.   
  • Coordinate with procurement, necessary vendors and service providers as needed.  
  • Assist in revising current SOPs and developing new ones.   
  • Perform consistent work practices in accordance with IPA (Canada) protocols, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).  
  • Assist in lab organization, equipment maintenance, cleaning, and waste management.

 

Requirements:
  • Proficiency with information/communication technologies (email/word processing/spreadsheets)
  • Superior communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking capabilities
  • Capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability; benchwork, aseptic technique, working in a BSC, wearing gloves
  • Flexible, hands-on mentality

  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks
